About

The Internet Service explains home internet, mobile data and online privacy in plain English for people in the United States: how to compare plans, get better Wi-Fi, cut data costs and keep your connection secure.

How we work

We base our guides on official consumer information, especially from the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission, including the FCC’s broadband labels, speed guides and Lifeline program and the FTC’s online security advice. AI tools help us research and draft our guides, and we check facts against those sources before publishing.

What we cover

  • Home Internet: broadband labels, speed, Wi-Fi coverage and the Lifeline discount.
  • Mobile Data: data use, eSIMs and using your phone abroad.
  • Online Privacy: public Wi-Fi, home network security and phone privacy settings.

Independent

We’re not an internet provider or a reseller, and no provider pays to appear in our guides. We don’t currently use affiliate links.
